Wheat planting ～小麦の植え付け状況報告～

We started planting wheat on April 15th. We were interrupted with rain on April 18th, resumed planting again late on April 21st and rained out again today（April 23rd）. What is planted went very well, but now we have rain forecasted again tomorrow with cold temperatures expected all of this coming week. We are now about 2/3 complete with the wheat planting. As with most early spring seasons, the weather has been quite variable. Soil moisture conditions are excellent, but the temperatures have been a little below normal. I hope to have pictures for you soon.

今年は4月15日に小麦の植え付けが始まりました。18日に雨が降ってしまったので一旦植え付けを中止しましたが、21日にまた植え付けを再開しました。しかしながら、今日（4月23日）にまた雨が降ってきてしまいました。植え付けは上手く行っていたのですが、また明日も雨の予報ですし、今週はずっと気温も上がらないようです。現時点で（4月23日）小麦の植え付けは３分の2が終了しました。春先としては、今年は天候の変化が大きい年でした。土壌の状態は上々ですが、気温は例年に比べると低めで続いています。

As sometimes happens in the spring season, the temperature drops enough during a rain event to create a little different color. Note the attached. Today（April 27th） we had about 4-5 cms of snow. Expect all of this to be gone by the weekend, but obviously field work will be stopped for a few more days.

春の時期に時々ある事なのですが、雨が続いて気温が下がると少し違った様相になることがあります。写真をご覧ください。4月27日に4～5センチの雪が降りました。この雪は週末（4月30日）までにはなくなると思いますが、畑仕事はあと数日は中断されそうです。

Wheat planting started again today（April 1.）. Attached are pictures I took about 2 hours earlier. The first picture is a cultivator that tills & mixes the soil. The piece of equipment also kills weeds before planting. The 2nd picture is our planting machine that seeds the wheat after the soil is tilled.

4月30日にまた小麦の植え付けを再開しました。写真はこれを書いている2時間前に撮ったものなのです。最初の写真は畑を耕して土を混ぜている様子です。この耕作機は植え付け前に雑草を取り除く事もできます。2枚目は植え付け作業機で、土が耕された後に小麦の種の植え付けを行います。
